Real name Matsumoto Chizuo, Asahara was the founder and head guru of the cult AUM Shinrikyo. He was found responsible for causing the 1995 Tokyo subway sarin attack, among numerous other terrorist attacks in the early to mid-1990s, and was executed as a result.
