afraid of monsters

Afraid of Monsters is a 2005 psychological horror singleplayer game developed by Andreas Rönnberg. It was released as a Half-Life 1 mod and remains as such to this day.

Afraid of Monsters stars David_Leatherhoff, a drug addict who finds a bottle of painkillers regularly mailed to him by an unknown company. He quickly becomes addicted to these as well, but checks himself into a hospital for help. There, he finds another bottle of the same pills, and inevitably takes them -- to which he blacks out and wakes up in a now-abandoned hospital with roughly the same layout.

The game revolves around David trying to overcome this addiction as he wanders from location to location and fighting strange monsters along the way.

Notably, Andreas made this game entirely alone, and published it when he was 12. This caught the attention of some others, now joined in Team Psykslallar, who helped him further polish AoM and create a spiritual sequel.
