white-eye (bird)

A family of small sparrow-like birds chiefly distinguished by a conspicuous ring of white feathers around their eyes, from which they derive their common (and scientific) name.

Also called mejiro in Japanese. This name usually refers to the warbling white-eye (Zosterops japonicus), which is the most common type of white-eye found drawn in Japanese art.
