umihara kawase

海腹川背

1994 Super Famicom puzzle platform game featuring a rubber rope with a hook that can attach to walls and ceilings, allowing you to bounce, swing, and fling yourself about acrobatically. Savagely difficult.

There have been sequels and adaptations for the PlayStation, PSP, and NDS, with the 3DS and PS Vita versions seeing release outside Japan.

The name

The characters in the name 海腹川背 mean sea, stomach, river, and back, respectively, and are in reference to the kitchen saying "Sea fish are fat in the belly; river fish are fat in the back." Umihara is also an existent Japanese surname, but is written with different kanji.

Characters

  • Sayonara Umihara Kawase
