手を洗おー!

A series of images in which beautiful girls, including anime characters, were used in posters produced by the Saitama prefectural government's medical maintenance division to promote the prevention of O-157 between 2001 and 2002.

Arguably the most notable posters produced during this time featured the characters of Azumanga Daioh illustrated by series creator Azuma Kiyohiko depicting Kasuga Ayumu looking obliquely upward with both hands stretched out to the front, with "手を洗おー!" (Tewoaro-! - meaning "Wash your hands!) inscribed with cute letters.

These were posted on public facilities in Saitama Prefecture, and in the buses that traveled around the prefecture. Inspired by the public relations campaign, parodies made with many characters have become popular on the Internet. In 2019, parodies of these posters made a resurgence due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
