A country located on the titular island of Taiwan in East Asia. As a country, it was established by Chiang Kai-Shek and various Kuomintang-affiliated Chinese after the Republic of China was defeated by Mao Zedong's Communist China and evacuated to the island. The state still serving as the continuity of the Republic of China and still using the same official name of "Republic of China" as when the state ruled mainland China.

The political status of Taiwan is complex, with the People's Republic of China claiming sovereignty over the island under the One-China Policy and refusing diplomatic relations with any country that officially recognizes Taiwan. Taiwan itself, meanwhile, is politically divided between the current ruling "Pan-Green Coalition" lead by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which seeks to relinquish the claim on mainland China and officially become an independent country as Taiwan, and the "Pan-Blue Coalition" lead by the Kuomintang Party, which maintains its claim as the sole and legitimate government of the entirety of China.

This tag can be applied if the post features the Republic of China flag, or features real world locations in Taiwan. Do not tag China on Taiwan-related posts unless that post also features the PRC's flag or locations, as well as a reference to the Chinese civil war.
