pacific animation corporation

Original name: パシフィックアニメーション株式会社
Years active: 1985-1989
Headquarters: Tokyo

Pacific Animation Corporation (PAC) was a Japanese animation studio that produced the Rankin/Bass animated series ThunderCats and SilverHawks.

PAC was born when "Topcraft", another Japanese animation studio, went bankrupt and dissolved in the mid 1980s. While most of the animators working at Topcraft, including Miyazaki Hayao, left to form Studio Ghibli, the remaining animators formed PAC. The production manager of the newly formed PAC was Masaki Iizuka.

Rankin/Bass, whose TV animated specials "The Last Unicorn", "The Flight of Dragons", and "The Hobbit" were produced by Topcraft, decided to employ the services of PAC for their animated TV show ThunderCats. After the enormous success of ThunderCats, Rankin/Bass continued their collaboration with PAC when they produced SilverHawks.

PAC closed down in 1989 when Walt Disney bought it to form "Walt Disney Animation Japan".
