ningen shikkaku

Ningen Shikkaku or No Longer Human is a semi-autobiographical tragedy novel written by Osamu Dazai. Considered Dazai's masterpiece, it follows the troubled life of Oba Yozo and his struggles with personal relationships, addiction, depression and suicide attempts.

Unfortunately, the novel mirrored a lot of the real life Dazai's anguish, and he committed suicide shortly after the novel's publication.
