A 2003 entry in the Need for Speed franchise. Notable for being the first entry in the series to focus on tuner cars and car customization, which would be a recurring theme with many future entries. Underground received a direct sequel in Need for Speed: Underground 2.

The game's cover car is an orange R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R belonging to Eddie, the game's main antagonist. It appears again in later installments.
