A protection for the neck.
The soft type looks like a bulky cloth collar and is designed to provide support after an injury, while the more recognizable rigid type is larger and is made with molded plastic to restrict neck movement during recovery from a fracture or surgery.
Modified versions of the rigid-type brace are worn by athletes who participate in high-impact sports and auto racing to prevent injuries.
