Unlike the other kaijus, Mothra is almost always depicted as a heroic kaiju (unlike Godzilla who typically takes the role of an anto-protagonist), almost always act as the protector of the Earth, nature, and civilizations. She is also one the rare female kaijus in the series, and can also communicate with humans via her accompanied fairy followers.

Due to her popularity, she is often referred to as the "queen of the monsters" and the "nature's goddess".
