kagutsuchi (mythology)

Kagutsuchi-no-Mikoto (軻遇突智命), also known by other names like Homusubi (火産霊), was the Japanese god of fire who his mother Izanami no Mikoto died giving birth to. Izanagi was so heartbroken by her death that he took out his sword and killed the newborn Kagutsuchi, dismembering him. From Kagutsuchi's remains and blood respectively, several mountains and deities were born.
