One of two Virtual Uploader idols created by the Communist Youth League of China, the other being her "younger brother" Hong Qiman. Both their names derive from the poetry of Mao Zedong, Jiang Shanjiao's name being derived from a line in the poem Snow (沁园春·雪) - “how lovely is this land” (江山如此多娇) becoming "Lovable/Lovely Country" (江山娇).
Both VTubers were met with immediate backlash, for a variety of reasons, and Jiang Shanjiao quickly became a symbol of China's endemic misogyny (especially in the face of the 2020 pandemic), as Chinese netizens began asking her the same sorts of questions successful Chinese women are within its borders.
Because of this, only hours after being revealed, both were scrubbed from Weibo and Bilibili.
