Although the 1986 MSX port of the first arcade Gradius game was faithful to the original, the rest -- "Gradius 2 (MSX)/Nemesis 2", "Salamander (MSX)" and this game -- have almost completely different storylines and gameplay mechanics from the arcade game series.
