fasces (object)
Fasces is an object or heraldic symbol that consists of a bound wooden rod bundle, often incorporating an axe (occasionally two) with its blade emerging. It is an Italian symbol that had its origin in the Etruscan civilization and was passed on to ancient Rome, representing law, power and governance.
During the first half of 20th century, the fasces became the symbol of National Fascist Party of Italy (origin of the term fascism).
