Dune: Part One is a 2021 movie adaptation of the first half of the original Dune novel from the 60s by Frank Herbert, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Originally scheduled for release in late 2020, it was one of the many films delayed by COVID-19, and was released on 22 October, 2021 both in theaters and on streaming on HBO MAX (in the United States). A sequel titled Dune: Part Two was released worldwide on March 1, 2024, also directed by Denis Villeneuve.
It was the second film adaption of Dune after David Lynch's Dune in 1984, and the third on-screen adaption since the Frank Herbert's Dune miniseries in 2000.
