The first in the long-running Dragon Quest series of video games. Although a very simple game by modern standards, it did establish many of the modern tropes of console RPGs.

It was originally released in 1986 for the Famicom, and brought to North America in 1990, though its name was changed to Dragon Warrior in that market due to a previous copyright on the Dragon Quest title. The game has since been ported and enhanced numerous times, with versions being made for the Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, and mobile devices.
