dodge monaco

A full-sized sedan that was produced by the Dodge division of the Chrysler Corporation from 1965 until 1979, the Dodge Monaco was used both as a luxury sedan until 1974, when Dodge's Polara was discontinued. For 1974 a low-trim Monaco was offered as a police car and was used by many police departments across the U.S.

In 1975 the Monaco retains the 1974 model's front end with a different radiator grille, while for 1976 the Monaco looks exactly like the Royal Monaco which has a different front end compared to the 1974-75 Monaco.

For 1977 the Monaco was redesigned as an intermediate-sized sedan while the Royal Monaco retained the full-body design, but was now also being offered as a police car. Both types of the Monaco stayed in production until 1979 when they were replaced by the Dodge St. Regis.

Police departments that used this vehicle included the California Highway Patrol, and notably the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois State Police. An ex-CHP 1974 Dodge Monaco received star treatment as the Bluesmobile in the 1980 film, The Blues Brothers, a film which also involved the Illinois State Police and Chicago Police Department, which mainly used 1977 model Dodge Royal Monacos in the film.
