darkmantle

A cave-dwelling monster from Dungeons & Dragons that resembles a vampire squid with eyes all around the outside of its body. Darkmantles have the ability to create shrouds of darkness that blocks most forms of light and prey on other travelers in deep underground locales, including human-sized beings. Darkmantles usually kill by smothering their prey in their webbing.

As darkmantles are listed as open game content, they have appeared in other fantasy TTRPGs (eg. Pathfinder).
