biopunk

バイオパンク

A genre of science fiction/horror and is the literary sister genre of cyberpunk, focusing on the use of biological technology and its effects on society. Usually very "meaty" in style with grotesque imagery, raw sexual motif, guro, living clothes, tentacles, exposed muscle and body horror being common visual staples. With the intention to fascinate the viewer with the exotic yet familiar imagery and make them feels uncomfortable at the same time.

In terms of aesthetics, pure biopunk art can typically be divided into two main styles: Style A which typically merge machinery and organics (think a computer with an organic brain) or style B which has the organics take over the role of machinery (think that the whole computer is made of organic matter).
