Assault Suit Leynos (重装機兵レイノス Jūsō Kihei Reinosu), released in the U.S.A. as Target Earth, is a military science fiction side-scrolling mecha action video game developed by Masaya in 1990 for the Sega Mega Drive Japanese home console and also for the Sega Genesis western console.
Set in the far future. Years after a devastating global conflict the United Earth forces face an apparent unknown hostile alien attack in its space colonies on the moon Ganymede.
It is the first game in the Assault Suits Series. An indirect prequel/spin-off called Assault Suits Valken with different characters was released in 1992 for the Nintendo Super Famicom Japanese home console.
A sequel to the original Leynos called Assault Suit Leynos 2 was released in 1997 for the Sega Saturn console only in Japan.
The original Leynos has since been re-released on the Wii as a Virtual Console product in Japan. A HD remake of the first game with new graphics has been also released for the PlayStation 4 console in all the world in 2016.
