A German ironclad frigate. Launched in 1868 and commissioned the following year, she served as its flagship during the Franco-Prussian War. In 1878, she accidentally rammed and sank the fellow ironclad Grosser Kurfürst. After being converted into an armoured cruiser in 1895 and later a training ship in 1904, she was eventually decommissioned and scrapped in 1921.
