When adding to the pool, please, in a comment on the post, cite the event that warrants its place in the pool.

For images that are sad or even worse in light of recent events, see Harsher in Hindsight. Note that both pools aren't necessarily mutually exclusive; recent events can make a post sad, funny, or even both depending on the viewer.
