Maz Kanata is a very short orange-skinned humanoid and former pirate and smuggler. She is over one thousand years old and manages an interstellar tavern in a castle on the planet Takodana.
Maz first appeared in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie from 2015. She is a CGI character voiced and performed by Mexican-Kenyan actress and film director Lupita Nyong'o .
