Short, stubby 1930s-era Soviet monoplane fighter that took part in World War II, until replaced by more advanced militaryairplanes in the early 1940s. Most were armed with 2-3 7.62mm machine guns, while a few experimented with 2 wing-mounted 20mm cannon.
