An ongoing 2008 light novel series by Akamatsu Chuugaku and illustrated by Kobuichi, with an ongoing 2009 manga adaptation illustrated by Koyoka Yoshino, a spring 2011 anime adaptation by J.C. Staff, and an ongoing 2010 spinoff manga Hidan no Aria AA illustrated by Tachibana Shogako, with its own anime adaptation by J.C. Staff.
On the way to school, Tooyama Kinji, a student of Tokyo Butei High, a prestigious school which trains youths to become "Butei" - armed civilian law enforcers - nearly fell victim to a serial bomber known as the "Butei Killer", were he not saved by Kanzaki H. Aria, his diminutive schoolmate and an elite gunner/swordsman. Despite his misgivings about his life as a Butei, Kinji nevertheless joins her in hunting down the "Butei Killer" before more of their schoolmates are endangered.
