A gat, also called a heuklip (lit. black hat), is a type of Korean traditional hat; until the 19th century, it was worn only by noblemen. They are cylindrical in shape with a wide brim (양태) on a bamboo frame (모자). Compare to the Western top hat.
Though most gat are black, some variations exist. White gat were exclusively for funerals. Red gat were worn by military officials.
