The city of Chicago is the largest city in Illinois, the United States. The city is the third-largest after Los Angeles and New York City. Also nicknamed the "Windy City", the city was first incorporated in 1837 on the shore of Lake Michigan. The city is known for its architecture and is also noted for its contributions to urban planning such as the City Beautiful movement. It would grow during the course of the 19th-century.
In addition to being a major cultural, financial, and industrial hub, the city of Chicago is renowned for its cuisine. Examples include Chicago deep dish pizza, Italian beef, the Chicago-style hot dog, and shaved ice.
